This is a calculator for the fuel consumption and the fuel costs as well as the carbon dioxide
emissions of your vehicle. The calculation is performed in every direction. Just type in
three values of your choice, which are independent of each other. All other values are
calculated.
Since the carbon content of gasoline and diesel are different, the calculation of the
carbon dioxide emission needs the information about the kind of fuel.
For gasoline engines a CO2 emission of 2.32 kg CO2 per liter fuel is
assumed. This value is 2.63 kg CO2/l for a diesel engine.
Usage:
Type known values in any order into the corresponding input fields. After a mouse click
on any free space of the window or the "calculate" button the possible calculations
are performed. On the left hand side you find metric units, on the right hand side there are units
more common in Northern America and the radio buttons to select gasoline or diesel engines.
The calculation is performed using the values in those three input fields changed last.
After the calculation, these fields are coloured lightgreen while the fields displaying calculated
values are coloured pink. However, the values used for the calculation must be independent
of each other. For example, the consumption in l/100 km or in miles/gallon is a dependent value
if the distance and the amount of fuel used for the trip are known.
The length of the distance in kilometres is dependent on the lenght in miles and vice versa.
In the case, that of the last three changed values the third last is dependent on the other two,
the fourth last changed value is used for the calculation instead. By observing the
background color of the input fields, you know at any time, which values are calculated and
which are input values.
If you want to use completely different values for a new calculation, you might click on the
"reset" button before.
Example: Your vehicle consumes 9 litres of gasoline per 100 km,
the price is 1.389 €/l and you want to drive 550 km. Type in the values above, one after each
other: Into the field "litre / 100 km" type "9". After a mouseclick you
may already read, what is the average carbon dioxide emission of your vehicle
(208.80 g CO2 / km). After the input of the price per litre "1.389"
into the corresponding field and a mouseclick, the price per 100 km (12.50 €) is
already shown. Now type in the distance in km ("550"). After a mouseclick on
any free space of the window or on the "calculate" button you may read all results
(e.g. you need 49.6 l of gasoline for the distance and that costs you 68.76 €).
How do these values change when your vehicle would emitt only 130 g carbon dioxide per kilometre ?
Type "130" into the field "g CO2 / km". After a mouseclick on
any free space of the window or on the "calculate" button you may see that the
consumption of your vehicle should be 5.6 l/100 km. For the distance of 550 km you would then
need 30.82 litres of gasoline only, what would cost you 42.81 €.
Remarks:
- Large and small numbers are written exponentially. As example
2.3e5 = 2.3⋅105 = 230000 or
4.5e-5 = 4.5⋅10-5 = 0.000045.
- There is no warranty for the conversion. Cactus2000 is not

- Please send an email if you have suggestions or if you would like to see more
conversions to be included.
