The absorbed radiation dose is the energy per mass absorbed by matter from ionizing radiation. It is dependent on the radiation and the properties of the matter. The SI unit is the gray (Gy, 1 Gy = 1 J/kg). The older unit rad is no longer used.

For the calculation of the dose equivalent (in Sv), the absorbed radiation dose (in Gy) is multiplied by a dimensionless weighting factor (quality factor) that describes the biological effectiveness of the radiation.

Usage: Type the value to convert into the field, behind which you find the unit. Click on any empty space in the window or on the "calculate" button. Read the result in the other fields. Use the "reset" button to reset your calculation. Move the mouse over a unit to read its full name.

Example: How many gray correspond to an absorbed radiation dose of 33 millirad ? Type "33" into the field behind which "mrad" is written. Click on any empty space in the window or on the "calculate" button. Read the result in the other fields. (e.g. 330 µGy).
